The Ericsson Method claims to have a 75% success rate in helping couples to conceive a girl, but no method can offer an absolute guarantee.
The x chromosome is the one that carries the female gene in the sperm. The Ericsson Method is based on the assumption that a higher concentration of x chromosome sperm will result in a better than average chance of conceiving a girl. The Ericsson Method is conducted under scientific conditions in clinics and is fairly expensive. For the Ericsson Method to be successful, the x sperm and y sperm must be separated. This is done by an albumin separation procedure. To increase the chances of conceiving a girl, the woman is usually given the drug Clomid.
After the sperm have been subjected to the separation process, the woman must be artificially inseminated at one of the Ericsson clinics. The cost of the basic procedure will be several thousand dollars. It is considered that the Ericsson Method will increase the chance of conceiving a girl to at least 75%. Some couples are still unable either to get pregnant or to conceive a girl and will opt to go on to the more involved and expensive in vitro procedure whereby the egg is fertilized in the laboratory and implanted in the woman. Expenses are quite heavy with this and a couple can expect to pay a very considerable sum for this. The personnel at the Ericsson centers will be happy to discuss the options available to a couple desiring to have a girl and can explain the procedure in greater detail. Financial arrangements will have to be completed before either procedure can be started.
Since the Ericsson Method first became available to the public, over 3,000 babies have been born at these fertility clinics. According to the data available from the clinics, couples do seem to be able to increase their chances of conceiving a girl.
